Dawn is Upon Us

Dawn is Upon Us

Dusk Till Dawn is releasing this month, we have a brand new constructed and blitz format to dig into, Cypriot Nationals are on the way, a new ban and restricted announcement has just dropped, and a ton of promos are up for grabs. What a time to be alive!

July Armories:

Let’s look at the latest batch of promos we have to look forward to for the entire month of July.

  • 1 Cold Foil Luminaris, Celestial Fury to the winner of each armory event
  • 6 Angelic Wrath Extended Art Rainbow foils from 2nd to 7th place, 2 of each pitch value
  • 1 Dusk Till Dawn playmat given to the player who has accumulated the most XP during the month
  • 1 Aegis, Archangel of protection playmat to the player who has most supported the game and local community during the month

If you pay attention to our schedule for this month, we have a Monarch Draft scheduled for the 11th. Starting with this event, all future draft events until Nationals will be timed and will require pool registration. This is to help everyone get familiarized with the process of drafting at a competitive setting, as these will be the circumstances during Nationals. You can find the exact process in the comprehensive rules document, but we will also be covering this in every draft event in the next couple of months.

War of the Monarch Prerelease:

The latest set release is fast approaching, and we’re diving back into the Monarch limited format for this prerelease. It’s a great place to refamiliarize ourselves with it, since it will be the premier limited format played during this season, as well as during the split format for Nationals. During the PreRelease event, taking place on the 8th of July, all players will draft using Monarch boosters, constructing a deck for one of the four available heroes, which they will use throughout the day to claim victory. In addition to the increased booster pack prize pool which will guarantee every player, regardless of finish, at least THREE Dusk Till Dawn boosters, the following promos are up for grabs:

  • The winner of each draft pod will receive a random Cold Foil Prism, Advent of Thrones or Vynnset young hero card
  • All participants will receive a random pitch value Extended Art Rainbow foil Herald of Ravages
  • Winner and runner-up of each draft pod will receive all pitch values instead
  • One random player in the event will receive a playmat of their choice from the available selection at the store
  • All participant will additionally receive one more random promo, one of which will be a random cold foil young hero card

Dusk Till Dawn:

The latest supplemental set is dropping in a couple of weeks! We have a new Prism to play with, a new Shadow Runeblade, support for Boltyn and a huge boost in the viability of a much-memed-about hero, Levia. This set will surely play a big part in competitive decks and will be quite the tough nut to crack in time for National Championships around the globe, not to mention the several Batt;e Hardened and Calling events taking place this summer. You can order your booster boxes here. Any preorders for a box of Dusk Till Dawn before the official release date of the 14th of July will receive a random Extended Art Rainbow foil Banneret promo while stocks last.

Ban & Suspended announcement:

This scheduled Ban & Suspended announcement could have easily left the format largely unchanged, but we have had some relevant developments for Classic Constructed

Firstly, the least impactful of the changes, Pulse of Isenloft is no longer banned, but with no Elemental hero legal in the format, it will remain in our collective binders until such a day comes that a new hero claims this spot.

Bloodsheath Skeleta moves from suspended to banned, so effectively nothing has changed for us, but perhaps this is also the final nail in the coffin for those that still held out hope that this combo enabling chest piece would ever see the light of day again.

Bull’s Eye Bracers is banned. That’s right, the original common Ranger arm piece is no longer legal. Although Azalea is paying for Lexi’s sins, this is a small adjustment to the overall power level of the Ranger class. Rangers have receive a massive boost in Outsiders, and Lexi especially, has really been running amock in the metagame. Oldhim was a a big roadblock, but with him out of the format, there aren’t, currently, many strategies that can really keep her in line. Bull’s Eye Bracers effectively let Lexi really pop off in Three of a Kind or Rain Razors turns, allowing her to potentially shoot 3,4 or sometimes even 5 arrows in the same turn, by giving her an additional reload and pump for no inherent cost. We will see if this surgical adjustment to the format changes things up significantly, but overall, I think this is the correct stance to take ahead of Nationals season and a whole new set dropping soon.

There are no changes to the Blitz format.

The next scheduled Ban & Suspended announcement will be on the 19th of September.
